- This award is open to any female resident in the UK. In nominating someone for the award (“the Nominator”) the official entry form must be used and the nominated woman (“the Nominee”) must then confirm that she agrees for her story to be nominated. By submitting an entry, both the Nominator and Nominee will be deemed to have: (a) read these terms and conditions and agree to be bound by them; and (b) agreed to Penguin contacting them in relation to their entry and use of their story in any press coverage of the award.
- To nominate a Woman of Courage please visit www.womenofcourageaward.co.uk (the "Website") and complete the official entry form on the 'Nominate Now' page, including your story in no more than 250 words of why the Nominee deserves to win. You can also request an official entry form by sending a s.a.e. to The Lesley Pearse Women of Courage Award, Entry Form Request, 80 Strand, London, WC2R 0RL.
- In the event that more than one entry is made for the same Nominee, the first received entry will be accepted into the competition.
- No responsibility can be accepted for incorrect, incomplete, illegible, lost or damaged entries. Proof of sending is not proof of receipt.
- A panel of judges will consider all entries and select a winner. The winner will be the woman who, in the judges' opinion, is the most courageous out of all entries received. The judging panel will consist of Lesley Pearse and representatives from the Promoter.
- The winner will be awarded the Women of Courage Award ("WOCA") and will receive: (i) an award trophy (ii) a framed certificate (iv) £200 worth of books published by the Promoter.
- The four runners-up will each receive a framed certificate and £100 worth of books published by the Promoter.
- The five finalists will be notified in writing or by telephone by 31st March 2010. The finalists' details will be made available after that date upon written request and on the Website. An awards lunch will take place in May 2009, to which the five finalists will be invited, when the winner will be announced. The five finalists must accept their invitation by no later than 31st March 2010. In the event that an acceptance has not been received by this date, the Promoter reserves the right to choose another finalist in accordance with the rules of this competition.
- Events may occur that render the promotion itself or the awarding of the prizes impossible due to reasons beyond the control of the Promoter. The Promoter may at its absolute discretion vary or amend this promotion and the winner and the runners-up agree that no liability shall attach itself to the Promoter, provided that any prize shall not be of lesser value than the one advertised.
- The decision of the judges is final and correspondence will be entered into only at the absolute discretion of the Promoter.
- By entering this competition, the Nominator and Nominee confirm that their entry and story is their wholly-owned creation and to the extent that such entry and story makes use of any third party materials that these have been fully cleared unless they are no longer protected by copyright or other intellectual property rights. The Nominator and Nominee will keep the Promoter harmless from any claims in relation to their entry/story that the entry and story infringes the personal or proprietary right of any other person. By submitting an entry and story, each Nominator and Nominee grants to the Promoter a perpetual, royalty-free, non-exclusive licence to edit, publish, translate, modify, adapt, make available and distribute the entry and story throughout the world in any media now known or hereafter invented. Each Nominator and Nominee undertakes to complete any necessary documentation to formalise the licence. If you do not want to grant us these rights, please do not submit materials to us.
